Bend in the Road
Last time y'all heard from me, I was awaiting for my placement with the Peace Corps. I applied to a bunch of jobs and had an interview with a phenomenal company on October 28, 2011 and was hired (due to start January, 2012). Coincidentally, that was the same day that I received an email from Peace Corps saying my invitation was in the mail. I was notified that my invitation would be arriving in the mail shortly. About a week later, a package was delivered with my assignment:
Position: Mathematics Instruction
Country: Sierra Leone
Departure Date: June 2012.
I was told I had a week to accept or decline the offer. After loads of research on the current situation in Sierra Leone (post civil war, with a great deal of violence directed towards women), I decided it was not in my best interest to move my life there for two years. Probably one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I am quite heart broken because the reason behind my declination was safety and I was told that declining would likely ruin my chances of ever being able to join in the future.
However, I think I made the right one. I am enjoying the best career of my life! :)
